Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works in Linux I am very happy with this printer. I needed a printer to work in Windows7 running in Virtualbox in a Linux host. I've never gotten a laser printer to work in a virtual machine with a usb cable, and so wanted a wireless printer. But I started out trying the usb connection, and as soon as I plugged the cable into my desktop, Linux immediately recognized the printer. When I installed the printer in Windows the printer was also recognized, which was a first for me with a laser printer. The wireless set up was difficult but that was my fault. I'd forgotten that I had MAC filtering on. I was trying to manually type in the security key to my router and was able to figure out how to use lower and upper case letters and symbols without having to read the manual. When I finally figured out the MAC filtering issue I connected using a WPS pin. It was very easy. Had I remembered the MAC filtering, it would have taken only a minute or two to set up the wireless. Canon has a Linux driver for this machine. My built-in Linux driver was not working well on my laptop so I downloaded the Canon driver and now the laptop works well. The Canon driver is not working well on my desktop, but the built-in linux driver works there. So now I'm successfully printing out of both Windows and Linux from the same desktop. I'm really happy with this printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not in the least bit happy w/ purchase I have no idea how well it might work when I, and 2 of your Techs, after ~6hrs over 3 days, couldn't get the print drivers to download with a brand new Win11 PC. Sure, you could blame Win11 for that, but you could also provide plug N Play drivers for those of us that simply want to take a darn cable and plug it in the old-fashioned way. Have you considered 2 drivers? 1 Plug N Play for us old-fashioned folks... and then a fancy dancy driver for those that like to print while parachuting from the Empire state building, while pinging the connection off a satellite many miles away. Seriously though… I don't care about the people that want to connect in complicated high-tech ways, I simply want to use PLUG N PLAY. That was 6 hrs out of my life I wasted, not to mention I had to pay for shipping both ways since you don't allow free returns (like Amazon does, and returning the printer was costly). Due to all I said above, I will not buy another Canon product. I don't feel like they value their customers.

The unit does not connect to WiFi so wireless printing is a no-go. The printer does a nice job with wired printing - but if we had known wireless would not work, we would have bought a different machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good B&W Starter Printer `I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion` * Great printer for basic printing jobs. Instructions were easy to follow and assembly was not hard at all. Set up took less then 10 minutes. Compact enough to fit in the corner of my desk so it doesn`t take up much space. One of my favorite features is the wireless capability. Being able to print on the fly from a computer or smart phone is a great option. This is a feature that my current printer does not offer. Overall this printer is a pretty good starter printer. Great for printing out simple word documents. Not being able to print in color for me is a big disappointment as most of my prints require color. The price is kind of high as well for a B&W only printer. If the color option was added this would be a great all around addition to my office.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid printer I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. The printer is super easy to get setup. The screen on the printer is pretty intuitive, and once you input your wifi information it connects to your network and is ready to print. It only prints in black and white but it prints super fast. It also has a relatively small footprint so is a good choice for a small desk in a home office. The instructions were clear and easy to understand, I was able to go from unboxing the printer to printing a test page in about 10 minutes. I have always used regular inkjet printers in the past, and I really enjoy the LBP162dw so far. It`s much faster compared to ink and I like that it gives you the option to print on both sides of the paper. I haven`t had any issues from using the printer so far and I am pleased with the ease of use. For what it is I think this is a decent value. If you`re looking for a basic black and white printer with no frills that prints quickly, is easy to setup, and is reliable this is a solid buy. If you need scanning or more features I think there are better values for your money out there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Easy, And Quiet! “I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion.” I have to say, I am extremely impressed with this printer! It was EXTREMELY easy to set up and connect to WiFi! I have had wireless printers before that needed you to download their app, to connect to it, then follow numerous instructions before ever connecting the printer to your WiFi network. This one however, took me all of 2 minutes to plug in, follow a few simple instructions that were clearly spelled out in the manual, and that was it, it was connected and ready to print its first page! So next came the trial printing. I tried a contract form that I use that has multiple different fonts, at different sizes, and has a lot of information on all one page, and this printer grabbed its paper (from its large hidden paper compartment, which makes it look very sleek and without even making much of a hum, out came the form within milliseconds. Overall I have been pleased with this printer, and have had no issues with in part of it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who would want a quick, quiet, easy to use, and great looking wireless printer!

I am familiar with Canon and have used the multi function printers/scanners/fax in the past, but this was my first experience with the single function printer. Overall, I am very happy with the device and quality. If you're looking for a simple printer that just prints, this would be top of the line. Installation and setup was a breeze. There are instructions and a set up manual, but they don't offer much more than the basics. However, it was very simple to figure out and took just a few minutes. I probably spent more time opening the box and removing everything. They offer two ways to connect, either with a USB or wifi. I chose the wifi route and was up and running right away. My laptop connected seamlessly. The toner is already installed, so no worries about that. The machine itself is compact enough to sit on a desk or table and it doesn't have the regular tray that most printers have, so there's nothing sticking out. You place the paper inside the machine and it comes out on top, which is rather convenient. No issues with jams or off set pages after a week of regular use. This printer is fast!! I am used to a combination machine which I thought was rather quick, but this Canon beats that. The print quality is nice and dark and clear as well. No smudges or variation of black ink. This only prints in black, by the way. No color. The sound is definitely there, but not any louder than a regular printer. And again, it's quick, so the noise lasts a few seconds and it's done. If you are needing a printer for a small office or a home based business, I would definitely recommend this Canon. It does exactly what it is supposed to do and does the job well. If you need extras like color or scanning, you will have you find another machine. But this was made for fast, efficient printing and it does a great job. It seems the toner is on the expensive side, but you won't need to change it out often, so I don't think you will lose too much in that regard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Bang for the Buck I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion First Impression: I compared this printer with another brands All in one printer that quit on me after a year of service. It`s a little smaller in use. I like that the paper tray can be closed after loading, and no overhanging exit tray. Setup: I had a little hiccup with setup. The instructions are telling me I need a USB cable that I cannot find anywhere. A trip to a brick and mortar reveals that I need a USB-A to USB-B cable. After purchasing this cable I couldn`t get the printer recognized with Windows 10 desktop. I had no problem discovering the printer after connecting my Wireless SSID. Use: This thing prints much faster than my old printer. I didn`t time it, but it`s over twice as fast as the old one. Time will tell if this printer holds up well, but it feels pretty solid. I`d recommend this to anyone that needs a no frills black and white printer.

I am very impressed with how quickly this printer can print pages, it is almost ridiculous how fast it is. It prints in nearly half the time it takes my other printer to even get started printing. There is also a very simple duplex feature that prints both sides within seconds. I`ve had other printers that are supposed supposed to print duplex, but they make it super complicated, not the case with this one. Another great feature is that it prints rather quietly. I also love that it connects to wifi. There is no assembly required which is great, but I found that setup was a little complicated as the instructions didn`t give enough detail nor did it include an HDMI cable for that setup option. Luckily, I`ve set up many printers in my past and was eventually able to figure it out. The install disc seems rather outdated that is included and was not relevant to my situation as none of my computers even have a space for a disc. I had to go to the Canon website and find the installer there. I did find it was easy to connect all of my other computers to the wireless printer after the initial install, so that part was a breeze. I would find it useful if they included an HDMI cable for future installation since they provide instructions for that, or at least providing a link where to download the installer if none of the other ways are going to be a good fit. This printer is definitely great for quick, black and white, every day printing which is what I need a printer for most of the time. If you don`t mind digging a bit to figure out how to install, I recommend giving this printer a shot, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Printer, Love it! start off. I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. I really needed a printer that was wireless and that printed good quality. The thing I liked the most about this printer is how fast it printed for the quality it puts out. I thought the setup process was simple and connecting from my laptop and smartphone was easy. The compact design saves room in my home office without sacfricing quality and speed. Screen is a little bit small but easy to read and navigate. Canon has always been top of the list for me when it comes to printers and this one especially is one of my favorites. I can`t really say I dislike anything about this printer. I`m just hoping the ink lasts longer than most other printers I have used in the past. Overall I think the design is great, compact, quality prints, and prints very quickly. I would definitely recommend this printer to anybody looking for a printer for home or office use.
