great
I never thought I would own a laser printer. It's big, but it's fast. It works, even in Linux. For some reason, every print job wastes a page declaring itself--otherwise, it would be a 5-star machine.

Great printer
I have had 2 different printers in the past (Cannon, & Brother), but this Xerox by far is the best out of all 3. I'm sure that Cannon & Brother have quality printers, but this Xerox is great. It is super quick and ease of use is pretty quick. I would highly recommend this Product to others.

Extremely annoying cover page and impossible to stop it.
The printer is not very good because even after hours of research and trying I couldn't get it connected to my Wi-Fi and I couldn't get the wasteful cover page to stop printing. Most items we print are only 1-2 pages, so to waste 1 page on a useless cover page is ridiculous. To make things worse, even after probably 5-6 hours of researching how to fix this, I was still not able to get it to stop. Very frustrating printer.

A great printer once it is set up properly
I was hesitant to purchase the XEROX B205 due to the multitude of bad reviews, mostly involving the random sheets this thing spits out. But it seems Xerox has listened to customers and disabled the Banner Page by default. Overall, the printer works extremely well, and I recommend it. However, it takes a little customization to get it just right. Hopefully this review will save you some trouble. GETTING CONNECTED First, I connected it via ethernet (a CAT5 cable plugged directly into my router). The printer has built in Wifi, but I don’t want to use that. Getting it to work over ethernet is simple, but not clearly explained in the instructions, so it was the most frustrating part for me. Here’s how I did it: Connect the printer and router with your own CAT5 cable (not included). Press the System button on the printer, press OK, scroll to Machine Status, OK, scroll to Network, OK, scroll to Ethernet then OK, Enable, OK, reboot the machine. If the Ethernet option is not available, first enable “IPv4” in Network, reboot, then go back into the Network settings as written above and enable Ethernet. Basically, you have to tell the printer that it’s ok for it to use its own built in ethernet connection. It’s annoying, but that’s the only way to get it to work. Download the latest drivers package from the Xerox website, and you’ll be ready to print in minutes. TWEAKING SETTINGS Once that was completed, I used Netgear Genie to find my printer’s IP address on the router, and then logged into the printer settings through my web browser. Default login is “admin” and then the serial number (on the back of the printer) as your password. Once you log into you printer through a web browser, go to Services -> Printing. Disable “Device Start Up Page” and “Error Page” if you want to save paper. If it’s printing the Banner Page, this is where you disable that as well. You can also download the latest firmware from the Xerox website and update it through the Maintenance section. This is recommended. PRINTING DARKER By default, the printer prints too light. I went into the Printer Properties dialogue and set the graphics to High Resolution, the “Clear Text” to Maximum, and I bumped up the Contrast. Then save those settings because you have to manually select them every time you print (I haven’t figured out how to make my customizations the default). CLOSING THOUGHTS This is a great printer, it prints extremely fast, it warms up quickly, it scans and saves to USB, and the price is great. I haven’t tried printing from my cell phone yet, but that’s supposed to work seamlessly. This printer, however, is not a plug and play machine. Plan on taking 30-60 minutes getting it set up just the way you want it. If you’re willing to invest a little time into it, you can get a printer that comes with features that would normally cost over $300.

Great but software issues make for a difficult setup
Just received today. Print quality is great, speed is fine. The setup was a nightmare. First of all, having to use the controls to attach to my network requires a lot of button pushes to add a letter and number and so on. Tedious. But then the nightmare as I print a page and it spits out several blank pages or pages with symbols and numbers. Apparently I need drivers. Well, the disk only has drivers for Windows. We have a Mac. So unless you have Windows (and why would anybody be on Windows these days), the disc is worthless. Hunting around the website and going online to youtube videos, I find the site for drivers, but nothing for my version. Call Xerox support and after a bit, I am sent to software. After 45 minutes, he sends me a link that is about the same, but has the pull down menu for my version. The original site only went as far as Mac Mojave 10.14. The new link has Catalina 10.15. I install and same problem. Install again. And again. This time I change a setting to have the printer as the name and not secure print. This solves the issue. I have 3 printer icons, the first two I delete. All seems to work now. Hopefully no more problems. But will say that they need to update the discs to include non-windows operating systems.

This product is good but wastes paper
I'm overall pleased with the Xerox B205 printer however every time a print job is initiated it prints out a cover page with the Xerox logo on it. I would like to turn this feature off in order to save paper. Help!

This product is difficult to use the menu
The keys and menu on this printed are the most difficult that I have ever used in 50 years of working. The copies and speed are great. It also goes to sleep and then won't print until you push the buttons to start it up. I wouldn't trade it for my old HP laserjet workhorse.

Wow, easy to set up, use, and quick to print
This is a marvelous addition to our home office. We had been using an older model Xerox, and quite honestly I thought I'd never find one that could replace it. But, this new B205 has everything we need, it is quiet, and quick to print. It doesn't require lots of space; in our application it fits well on a 2-drawer file cabinet. Don't overlook this great Xerox. I am thankful I researched and found this, and would buy again!

Difficult to use.
When ordering from Dell, I asked for a Copy fax and printer. This is only a copy and print machine. I was told it does envelopes, it does not from WordPerfect. I cannot disallow the printing of a banner page. When I called ted services, they said they could not help me. In all I am extremely disappointed. My next machine will be bought from a Staples Store.

Wholly inadequate instruction manual
The printer comes with an instruction manual which is so utterly inadequate, they might as well not bother at all. For example, it's impossible to work out whether the printer can be used with Chrome OS via a USB (now a huge market) so beware. The wifi set up has to be worked out via YouTube videos because the instruction booklet, if that's what you call it, doesn't explain how to do it. Once you've figured it out (no thanks to Xerox) it works well (see below). But before you know it, the printer seems to have forgotten the wifi setting, meaning you have to go through the whole wretched process all over again. And without access to USB, which doesn't work apparently (either because it can't for unknown technical reasons, or there's no clear to configure it - who knows), the whole experience rapidly turns into a complete nightmare. Xerox have no one to blame but themselves. They could start by writing an instruction manual and provide it with the printer, which doesn't seem too much to ask. It does come with a hard disk which presumably has some instructions on it, but how many of us have a reader. A booklet in plain English is all we ask. Finally, trying to get through to Xerox support adds to the nightmarish experience. And when you do, they seem ignorant about the technical questions set out in this review, specifically whether the printer is compatible with Chrome and if so, how to print with it. In fairness, and in the interests of balance, on the occasions I managed to get the printer to work via wifi, it did a perfectly adequate job, was exceptionally quiet, with good printer quality. But getting there is such an uphill struggle, is it really worth it?

Not Good
We bought this because the device we wanted was on back order. I'm wishing now that I would have just waited. The machine gets jammed with paper daily and rollers work when they want to. I tried return it, but because we've had it more than 17 days we cannot. I've never heard of an electronic device not able to be returned. It doesn't have a fax, which I need, but this was the only machine available. The toner/ink is almost never available with the max pages to print and the smaller one takes 2-3 weeks to get delivered. Horrible machine. Hard to run a busy office with this machine.

When it prints the quality is good the speed is normal. The issue lies with the fact I can't get it to print 9 out of 10 times and have yet to get the wireless feature to work at all. It is very frustrating.

Good for home office.
The printer is a good choice for a home office that does not do much printing. I wish it had dual side printing. My biggest complaint is the unit printing a cover page with each job. What a waste of paper and toner. No one in support seems to know how to disable that function.

This machine is very quiet and has such good quality. The only thing I could possibly wish for is that the Menu selections could be a little easier to work through. I had to look up on YouTube how to do the Menu Selections compared to the little note book that came with the printer.

Even the company couldn't fix my problem
The printer was set to print a banner page, which is basically a spacer page between print jobs. Unless I was hooked up to a network (which I was not), there is absolutely no way to turn off the banner page. My IT guy and I spent at least 4 hours online and on the phone with Xerox and no one knew how to fix the problem. Finally, we had to find a network to hook it up to, turn off the banner page, then bring it back to my desk.

Not a great printer
Every time you run the printer, it automatically prints a configuration report. That means at least 365 wasted sheets and wasted toner every year if you print every day. Nowhere do the instructions say to enter some phone numbers on the tiny screen before the printer will work. OUTRAGEOUS ! It is very difficult to print on both sides of a sheet. You have to use a single sheet, print one side, enter the second sheet info, push print, then turn the sheet over and coax the printer to print. HP printers are much more user friendly. On the plus side, the initial amount of toner beats HP printers.

This product has too many information pages printed each time I print.
I would not recommend this printer because it prints too many printer information pages before everything I print. I have to constantly turn off the information pages before printing anything. This uses up copier paper and uses up ink. My understanding is that the laser ink tank for this printer costs about. $50.00 for a toner cartridge.

Great Printer, economical, no more inkjet cartridges to buy!!
This printer costs more than an inkjet, but it brings a lot to the table. I scanned a 10 page document in well under a minute, in color. I can print quickly, with expected laser print quality. I'd like 2-sided automatic printing, but one gets what one is willing to pay for. In 6 month's time, this printer will have paid for itself in saved supplies, time and frustration elimination.

NICE PRINTER FOR THE PRICE, BUT SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT TO USE
The printer is nice and compact. Print quality is good. My main problem is scanning. I just can't figure out how to scan to my computer or, my preference, scan to e-mail. I downloaded the manual and tried to follow each step, but to no avail.

Endless problems from start to finish
On the basis that the product is only as good as the software that runs it, this printer is next to useless. The problems only begin with trying to get the machine configured. And what is clear is that I am not alone in finding this a thoroughly nightmarish experience, judging by other reviews. I fully understand that nothing is plug in and go these days, but equally most of us are not IT experts and expect simple instructions and an easy to follow set up process, for what is an everyday appliance to meet a domestic need. When I did eventually get the thing going (only after following assorted YouTube videos) it functioned only intermittently, before some error report popped up, or the whole thing had to be reconfigured with the wifi, as if once wasn't painful enough. What it is very good at doing is printing an unwanted 'configuration report' at every opportunity full of IT jargon of no use whatsoever to man or beast, before steadfastly refusing to operate, issuing another error report, and wasting more of one's valuable time trying to reconfigure the thing for the nth time. When will manufacturers realise that most of us would willingly sacrifice functionality for simplicity. I for one will be voting with my feet and buying a replacement printer elsewhere out of sheer frustration.

Software and interface for setup is pain
Attempted to set up machine for home network. Mac was easy to connect, wife's computer had to have the software disk and did not auto load. Be sure you write down admin password the software interface it horrible. Apparently I changed it and did not even know it. Was able to print, but I refused to allow the annoying cover sheet to print every time. My company IT person said to remove all the bloatware on the computer and just download the drivers. Could not login to change the admin without the login for rest.. Endless cycle. Brought it into work and had my IT guy to reset it, got new admin password and turned the annoying cover sheet off. Took it back home and now it refuses to connect to the home WiFi automatically or forced in at the printer interface. Will only recognize the work WiFi now. All of this should be intuitive and automatically connect via computer. Adding the WifI information on the machine itself is a pain. The software connection for setup goes away very time the machine goes to sleep. information on the Right when I am trying to fix it. So far it is a boat anchor. Once I have actually it working on the Wifi and not printing the annoying cover sheet... I will review again.

One frustrating challenge
Printer is compact, scans to a JPEG and prints quickly. It will work on both wifi and hard wired connection. The frustration is with the banner page printing. You have to disable it before each print job of the day. i have worked with Tech support and know how to disable banner printing but if i don't remember to do it before i start printing i was another piece of paper and ink. The disabling feature should last for more than one day.

Great Home Printer
I wanted an economical laser printer / scanner for my home in FL (only here 6 months) and this is PERFECT for my needs. This black and white printer has great print quality and very fast. Easy to connect to my wireless network. Will also print documents from my iPhone. I do a lot of document scanning of financial records and chose this printer because you can scan to a USB device. Very few printers do that. Great printer for the price which was very reasonable. I did NOT want an ink printer because the cartridges would dry out when we are not here. Highly recommend if you need a home printer.

Nice spec but completely useless software - try something else
It has a nice feature list, is good at scanning, but for printing, certainly using Linux, forget it. Never twice the same result - printing a document yesterday, will not work today and it will spew pages of random characters until you remove the paper.

Too many wasted pages
I like the speed and quality of the printer, but what a waste of paper. Every time I go to print it shots out a Configuration Report before I print. I mean what up with that and whats more frustrating is that it doesn't allow you to stop it or opt out of it. I'm returning it and hopefully get my money back.

Decent printer
For the price this is an OK printer but it doesn't stand out in any significant way. One significant deficiency, and this was my mistake in missing it, is that it does not provide automatic duplex print capability. Had I realized that I would have opted for another model which does. The wifi seems spotty and it sits within 8 feet of a router, Thus that capability is not useful for me and the print/copy functions are accessed by a USB connection. The print quality is about what one might expect from a laser printer but isn't any better than the six year old printer it replaced. In sum, it works and accomplishes basic tasks reliably, but if I had to do it again, I would opt for one of the more capable models.

Doesn't work well for what I needed
Purchased this to print cheques, only to find that I need to put the cheques in the tray upside-down and reorder the cheques. It's a bit of a pain, it was suppose to make it quicker and easier but it did not. Also, initial set up was not easy and I have not set up the scanner yet (too complicated). Manual feed can only take one page at a time. Not the best choice for what I needed but for someone just doing regular printing on plain paper it's a good printer.

Shameful waste of plastic and paper
Never works - either wireless or USB-wired. Environmentally the worst printer of all time - it prints a status sheet ever time it starts - the aim being to run the ink down faster to ensure replacement ink is purchased. In short - a very large volume of heavy, useless, plastic to sit next to a desk. Spent hours trying to get this printer to work with no luck.
