Know your gear
The PT-P700 is an easy-to-use, full-featured label maker. It's perfect for multi-user offices looking for simple connectivity and the ability to quickly create a wide variety of professional labels using a computer. Although it's great for individual label printing, it's particularly well-suited to multi-label printing, thanks to its fast print speeds, "repeat printing" capability, and an automatic cutter. And since no software or driver installation is required, it's great for sharing, or in restrictive IT environments.

A disappointing product
This product was a disappointment. I purchased it to save time in using the labels to post on my daily appointment book and my files. The on/off switch works when it wants to and the software when initiated negates all of its settings. After a week I stopped using it and reverted to the Brother manual label maker. Perhaps next week I will devote a couple of days to experiment to determine if I can overcome its clumsy software/hardware interface.

Very good printer, very poor software
The printer itself works fine and makes clear, attractive labels. The software is another story. Don't bother with the CD that comes with the printer. It's way out of date and harks back to Win8.
Download the latest software and firmware updates directly from Brother. But even that software is difficult to use. The onscreen user interface is small and difficult to read and interpret. Online manual is not very clear or well-written.
So get the printer, but use the simplest version of the software.

Great Price Great Product
PT-700 is one of the simplest labeler ever. Hard worker & makes waterproof labels in several size widths & colors. It also has an editor program that can edit & store specific often used labels. This is my second Brother UBS labeler and I still use them both on two computers. I keep A different tape in each. I use batteries in mine (it takes six AA and they last well over a year depending on use. Program is very fast to load. Just turn the labeler on and program loads. I had to retire my P-touch 2730. All the labels that I saved the last 10 years were retrievable through the P-touch software. Ok label Maker
Ok label maker. Software is antiquated interface feels like its 20 yrs old. A major down side is that the printer it wastes label tape. A 1 inch blank piece of tape get cut/ejected with each label. Such a waste of the overprice supplies. Last, but not least, it would be nice if it had a label catcher. I don't have spare desk space, so I have it sitting on the edge of a file cabinet and its annoying if the label falls to the ground.

Didnt work on my Pro Mac
Tried everything for 3 hours: switching ports, trashed other apps, turned file-sharing off and on, made the label maker the default printer, reset the machine and the computer many times. I even updated the OS in my computer; NOTTA. It never recognized the unit. I spent a lot of time registering the unit as well as setting up an account with Brother, yet even with that, getting connected to help was time and labor intensive. Eventually I had to weigh what my time was worth against the nebulous void which was this machine. ( OS 10.8)

Prints Great but.....
The PTP700 works great . It is convenient to run and the software seems to be complete. BUT...Brother in the PTP700 and the 2530 has designed units which are not easy -in fact really difficult to change out the tapes. Our original 26=500PC was very easy to open and exchange the tapes.
We use a number of different size lables for our products from 1/4 inch to 1 inch and as such need to be able to easily remove and replace the cartridge. The PTP700 is very difficult to open and the 2530 not much easier.
My question-WHY???
I would recommend these label makers with the caveat -about tape exchange

Good but ...
I like this printer. Once I learned how to use the label editor I liked it even more.
BUT ...
It seems to have a problem with Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) that causes it to munge the label at the 73mm mark or so. Every time. Once that it fixed I'll give it five stars.
Once I attached it to an older computer running 10.7 (Lion) it works very well.
The editor did take some getting used to. But I have found that it's actually pretty powerful.
One suggestion I might make to Brother would be to have a really cheap tape available to use while learning the software. It's pretty expensive to use up 1" tape while learning the software.

This appear to be basic low-end economy model of PTouch machine. Like the old model, PT-1500PC, much better, until it stopped working. This model's software seems confusing. Just wanted a label maker that connects to my PC. I feel this model is less "user friendly". And it wastes 1/2' to 3/4" of tape each printing (cuts off that much tape before the actual printed label is produced.

I'm very satisfied with all this can do, with one exception. There is a lot of trim waste. I've tried all available settings, but so far have not found a way to reduce the waste that's trimmed off at the start of each label. If there is a way to.stop this, then perhaps the instructions could be improved to give clear guidance. But other then this, it's a great little label maker!

Great Label Printer
I highly recommend you download the P-Touch Editor Software to get the most efficient easy use of your machine! I did download the software on my IMac and found the software very unfriendly.......I was frustrated and I decided to try the printer on my PC which is running Windows 10 and found the P-Touch software amazing! A very different experience than occurred when using on my iMac! I was so surprised at the ease of use, the huge number of repopulated labels covering everything from Holiday labels including Christmas, Halloween, home labels covering electrical symbols, kitchen items, address labels, gift tags to name a only a few! I tried a few of the pre setup labels and by simply checking a box you can have the label fill whatever size label you are currently using -- that is done automatically! I am a home user and can see that this is going to be a very practical and handy device to get organized.

Could be better....
Works best on Windows machines, since a lot of functions are not available on an Apple machine. That said, the instruction sheet is like a large map, and is poorly written. Very difficult to find information on how to use the P-touch software, not the P-touch lite (very confusing, to say the least).
I finally got the labeler running on my Windows 8 machine, after giving up getting it to run on my iMac. You need to download the software users guide from the disk included with the labeler if you are going to use the labeler on a Windows machine. This is so you can use the many features that the labeler is capable of. Why Brother made this so complex and confusing is beyond me. Anyway, once it is set up and running with the full p-touch software package, it really is a nice labeler with lots of nice features. Still a little difficult setting up unique labels, but it still can be done with a little patience.
Brother really needs to run some user panels on new products before they introduce them into the marketplace. A lot of the issues I found with this labeler could have been avoided, if the software manual, and a better installation guide was included with the package. There is no reason in this day and age for Brother to have a customer search around for information on how to properly install their labeler.... everything should be plug-and-play and not require the user to have expert computer skills to use or install this labeler. My Brother laser printers were a breeze to install, sure seems to me that Brother could do as well for their labeler purchasers. I love my other Brother products!

nice mechine
This did work great, was easy to setup and print the first label. Small design problem was that the computer cable is to short too reach from the top on my desk to the back of the computer tower, would be nicer if it were 2 feet longer. After I used it a few times the software was lost. The desktop short cut could not find the program. The tech thinks that the software was in a buffer and not downloaded into a folder. It worked for a few days until the it was pushed out of the buffer. We needed to reload the software a 2nd time and make sure that it was in a subfolder. This did not work well, it kept connecting to one of the other drivers for standard printers. It took a few tries to get it to connect to the right driver.

Associated Software
In initially playing with it, I found the associated software difficult. I would set the tape size (TZe-231) and length, then started typing the description. If I went over the set length, it would stretch the label outline beyond what would fit for that length. All this was much easier to set up on my Brother PT-1800/1810. I expect I am doing something wrong, so looked for a tutorial on YouTube, but alas. I really need my PT-P700 in order to organize my rather extensive personal and genealogical documents. P.S. One would think that after all these years, you could find a way to eliminate the 1" of wasted blank tape.

Works as advertised
In woodworking (as is the case with many other endeavors it is imperative to stay organized… labels are a critical key to success. The P-touch labeler can be connected to a computer allowing precise composition of labels. For example, I needed to make labels for some hardware storage bins… the labels had to be precise in length in order to fit. With the PT-P700 I was able to set the length (in decimal fractions of inches) precisely and get a perfect fit.

Great Buy
I have always wanted a good label maker but did not want to spend a lot of money. Found this one on sale at Staples and decided to bite the bullet and buy it. Turned out to be a great choice. I like that it use's different sizes. The editor is fairly easy to use and was able to turn out labels in no time. I give it 5 stars.

P-Touch Labeler
This is a great PC/Mac only printer. I bought it in addition to my PT-1950 keyboard labeler. The only downside is that it uses only the newer TZe tapes. If you load the optional P-Touch software and select Chain Printing - you can avoid wasting tape between labels. On the last one, just press the cutter button to eject and cut the last label

Difficult Software PT Editor
With Windows 8 I could not download the PT Editor software from the website and find it on my hard drive then use it. . Thee onboard PT editor lite works OK but I would like something fancier with more functionality and customization. Especially since it is available - its just unattainable easily. Brother should make this easier to download with W8. I know I can get it to work but it may take me hours of trying - I'll just use the PT Editor Lite program for now. Disappointing.

Generally Good
OVERALL
We generally like the p-touch, enough so that I have talked clients into buying one. It can produce good looking, easy to read, clear labels.
If you need to print the kinds of labels that this will print, it ought to be on your short list of candidates.
The unit is intended to be portable and it does have the ability to run from batteries. We have taken it with us to client sites, but have always powered it from AC instead of batteries.
THINGS THAT COULD BE BETTER
Getting Software
Getting software for this unit from Brother’s WEB site is a bigger pain than it ought to be. Why make us jump through hoop just to get the software? The process makes it harder to convince someone else to buy it, when they watch how much work it is to get the software so you can demo it.
Ability To Set Margins
Often we find the margins are just too big. But there doesn’t seem to be any way to set smaller margins. It would be nice if the ability to set the margins were a feature of the software.
Better User Interface
The Software has a lot of features, but one often finds that it isn’t obvious how to accomplish what you want to do.
Ability to Do Larger Labels
Often we wish for a unit that could do wider labels. Brother does make some, but they are noticeably more $$$ and not Macintosh compatible.

Works as it should
I have gone through one 1/2" label cartridge, and the printer has worked fine. The main criticism of the system is the wasted tape at the beginning of each label run. I can see that this is necessary because of how the tape is layered with the tape, print and lamination, so I don't mind that so much. I would encourage anyone purchasing the printer to download the free, full featured software (P-Touch editor, rather than using the quickie, autoloading program. With P-Touch editor, the tape wasted at the beginning of the label run is less, and you can string as many labels as you want together, eliminating more waste, up to the limit of the tape on the cartridge.

Extremely efficient label printer. Sits unobtrusively on my desk next to the monitor. Just press the on button and the app shows up on my dashboard. Open the app, format the label & hit print. Couldn't be simpler! Ignore/forget the printer & it automatically shuts off. Then it just sits and waits for its next use. Purchased this model to replace a stand alone P-touch labeler. This item performs as advertised and produces a nice label. The only thing I do not like is the 3/4" of leader tape that is wasted with each label. Seems like the cartridge could have been designed to prevent this waste. I had to do several hundred labels to put on magnetic strips and by the time I was done I had waste a roll and a half of $30 tape.

The first machine that I purchased, after speaking to one of your technicians I printed one label but no more. The same problem repeated, that being when I select print something flashes on the screen but no printer action.
I spoke once again to a technician and he advised me that the machine was defective and should be returned which I did. He advised me that the replacement machine would work as configured on on Windows 10. I installed the new machine and the same, original problem exists.

Works great-wastes tape!
While the PT-P700 prints great labels, every time you print there is an approximately one inch piece of label tape that spits out of the device. I don't know the technology that must require this. Perhaps the tape transport mechanism needs that much to grip the tape and propel it through the printer. Whatever it is, it is wasteful and therefore extremely annoying to a "value conscious" person such as myself.

Easy to use!!
Great product! Easy to use. I use it on my Mac and PC and it worked right away. The only reason why I gave it a 4/5 is because you cannot modify the format to eliminate the 1+ inch of blank tape that prints on either side of your target message which results in waisted tape and having to trim label by hand. Other than that it's great!!!

Awesome label maker
For years I used the P-Touch Label maker and decided because I'm on my desktop computer more and more these days that i would treat myself to a Label maker that allowed me to display on screen the label , size plus add characters and symbols like Chinese symbols , all from my computer and then print the label quickly and error free . No more wasted tapes printing out what i thought I had typed. This unit sits neatly next to my desktop screen within easy reach . The only fault would be not having a Shortcut on-screen so I don't have to hunt it down among my other programs . But anyway I love this Label Maker .

Great value for a more advanced label maker!
This is a great value! You get all the features of PC connectivity, without the hassle or added cost of a wirelessly connected solution. The P-Touch software is great! You can create labels as simple or as intricate as you'd like. There's even a "simple" and "advanced" mode, so the software really works at your level. Labels print quickly and the quality is pretty good, but not QUITE as good as the top tier 360 dpi models, however I doubt many home or home business users would complain. I personally used this model to print perfume bottle labels 1"x1.2" and it worked great for me! And the labels are extremely durable, so it was a no brainer to use Brother labels as opposed to some of the alternatives. Yes, it does waste a little bit of tape before printing, but the end result is worth it.

Great printer and software, but...
The printer was at a great price and it works flawlessly, but the price of the labels makes the printer impractical. At 50 cents to a dollar a foot for the label stock, it makes labeling an expensive proposition. If you have a special need for a solid laminated label, this is your solution but be prepared to pay for it...

Good deal
We needed to replace an ancient Brady label printer used in our manufacturing department. The PT-P700 gave me a lot of flexibility to print multiple lines on a 12mm tape, thus saving me material cost. Easy to store labels and edit as required. I think that the only thing I would change is to add a fold-down tray to catch short labels that otherwise tend to shoot off when cut. For now, we have a Dixie cup in front of it...

Printer is Great. Software is Good.
I've been using this printer for about 6 months. Mechanically it has worked flawless; no jams or misfeeds, and the print quality is great. I only print black on white text, so I can't comment on graphics or resolution.
As several others have mentioned, the software is not exactly intuitive. All the bells and whistles are there; different fonts, text sizes, auto spacing, sideways printing. There are all most too many options, and they are not always easy to find. My biggest problem is the overly long feed on many of the labels. At one point I went to continuous mode, which saved tape, then the printer reset itself. I have no idea what happened, and I'm still looking for the way to get consecutive labels to print without adding 1.5 inches of tape to each end, otherwise, I would rate it as 5 stars.

Does Not Play Well w/Mac
I'm not sure what the problem is, these devices have software pre-installed in the unit, no need to install desktop software. Well my P700 doesn't like my Mac! They fight and argue all the time, with the Mac always winning. I really am dis-appointed, because when things do go well, it's a great little machine. The specs stated it was Apple OS X compatible. I wish I would have done some homework instead of making a knee jerk reaction to buy. I did not realize they offered a Wireless option. If this keeps giving me issues and keeps crashing the program.... Well I'm not sure which way I will go. I'd would like to get a wireless unit though. I did reach out to Product Support and never heard anything back.

The next support person I got just asked me to change the font, showed me how, and it printed bold. I cannot find any explanation of "chain printing' nor can I find out how to regulate the space between words. I have simple needs and have used a Brother PT 320 for over 20 years. I had trouble with the set up due to my own fault, I was thinking it was like a thumb drive that you just had to put it into the computer and it works, you have to plug it into the wall. (DUH!) After that is worked fine. I just wish that for home use the tape would not be so expensive. My husband is afraid that I will be labeling everything I am having so much fun with the label machine. I also wish that I could change the font on the machine, and the size of the font, as the standard size does not give me an option to make 2 lines of print. I also would like that it did not waste that little square before the label prints out, it is a waste of tape. I like the ease of use and the way the compact size fits near my computer. I also like that you can refill the cartridge so easily, it just pops right in. I wish that I could put the bigger tape into this machine, without having to buy another one bigger to do that.

Features
The biggest complaint I have is the waste of printing the tape. what I mean by that is how there is a 1" blank tape that is ejected and cut before the actual tape is printed! That means for every 12 tapes I print, I lose 12 - 1" pieces or 12" (1 foot)! That is very wasteful and costly. That I don't like and therefore I will not recommend this product to any one.

I had an older PT printer but it was not compatible with my new iMac. So I ordered the PT-P700 due to it's compact size and brand experience. I have not been disappointed. PT-P700
The product software is very good. It allows editing not available with your other label makers.
When first printing I noticed less tape was being used, meaning more economy.
The support in materials and suggestions is great as the PT-P700 cab become much more versatile.

Great - works with a iMac!
I switched to a iMac from a PC and my Brother labeler was not Apple friendly. This new one is and it works great. Highly recommended.

Awesome printer
I work for the railroad and wish that Brother could produce a sleeve label cartridge, the sleeve label would slide over the identifying wire.

Good device but...
So far this has been a good device, BUT:
While the description on the box says that it uses the TZe tapes but does not caution that the older TZ tapes will not work in it. My previous printer would accept BOTH. Since I have a supply of the older tapes I am stuck, and Brother hasn't offered a method of replacing them.

Great Label Maker
As usual, Brother makes an exceptional product. I had a problem with the unit and Customer Service took care of it. In all these years of buying Brother products, this was the first time I had a problem and they were quick to replace the defective unit. This unit makes impresive labels. Easy and quick to use. Not a difficult learning curve.

Great Label Machine
Love that you can choose from fonts on your computer and upload pictures/clip art to add to label. The layouts available are very nice, wish it was expanded. Great feature of chain printing to saver ribbon. Can print from a database or Excel spreadsheet, Awesome. Absolutely love this labeler.

Great tool for the office
This is an awesome little desktop printer! I use it mainly for producing barcodes for my office & customers. For this, it's really tough to beat. Combined with the software you can produce enterprise-quality labeling solutions on a small business budget!
